2026 Course (Re)Design Workshop & Expo

Join us for a day of reimagining undergraduate education at VCU, one course at a time. Open to all faculty and staff instructors teaching undergraduate courses.

Workshops will provide you with tools to (re)design undergraduate courses for the benefit of your students and you!

Title II accessibility specialists will be on hand to address questions and provide assistance with course materials.

When: May 13, 10:30AM - 2:30PM 
Where: Student Commons Richmond Salons & Virginia Rooms, continental breakfast and lunch provided
What to bring: Session facilitators will contact those who RSVP with how to prepare

Energizing VCU General Education: Infuse your course with new energy and ideas while helping to make VCU’s gen ed program one of the most memorable parts of the undergraduate experience.

Service Learning as a Community Engaged Pedagogy: Discover best practices for translating VCU’s community-engaged DNA into your course curriculum. 

Design Thinking and Life Design for Experiential Learning & Student Innovation: Through a hands-on activity and discussion, integrate Design Thinking and Life Design into your courses with support from the da Vinci Center and VCU Life Design. 

Every Ram’s a Researcher! Research-Supportive/Project-Based Learning (RS/PBL): Learn how to embed the foundational elements of research and scholarly inquiry directly into your existing course through the RS/PBL framework. 

Vertically Integrated Projects: Build Your Student Research Team: Encounter a new way of enabling students to participate in your research over multiple semesters through curricular Vertically Integrated Projects. The university-level VIP program (vip.vcu.edu) includes funding and centralized administrative support. 

Generative AI Tools at VCU: Are you interested in generative AI tools but don’t know what’s available through the institution? Gain hands-on experience with VCU’s generative AI tools.

UNgrading! Alternative Approaches to Grading: What are some alternative approaches to grading and how can they change the game for your students and you?

Embedding Career Readiness Competencies in Your Classroom - Partner with Student Success and Career Services to improve student connection to career competencies developed throughout your undergraduate course.

Making Learning Visible: Micro-credential Pathways - Gain an introduction to micro-credentials and explore how to design pathways that connect learning outcomes to demonstrable skills across credit and noncredit contexts.
